DJI Avata 2 review – FPV flying has never been so immersive

DJI AVATA 2: TWO MINUTE REVIEW

FPV (first-person view) drone flying has taken the world by storm. From being an underground hobby more than 15 years ago that required clever and determined pilots to find parts and build and repair their own drones, it has now truly become a mainstream activity that more people can get involved in than ever before – thanks in large part to market leader DJI.

Powered by a 2150mAhDJI Avata 2 battery, the Avata 2 can fly for up to 26 minutes at a slow cruise on a windless day; if you fly manually and perform loops and rolls on windier days, your flight time will be significantly reduced, but  DJI Avata 2 battery endurance is still good.

Once you buy the Avata 2, you can decide how easy or difficult you want to fly it. For beginners, you can fly it easily in Normal mode, using the intuitive DJI Motion Controller 3 and all the built-in assistance features DJI provides, including automatic takeoff, obstacle avoidance sensors, and automatic return. This means that anyone, regardless of previous experience, can enjoy the thrill of immersive flight while taking photos or videos – although, in reality, FPV is more about the flying experience and videography. The DJI Avata 2 is a complete redesign of its predecessor, with a longer wheelbase, dimensions of 7.26 x 8.35 x 2.52 inches / 184.5 x 212 x 64 mm, and a flatter frame for better aerodynamics. DJI claims the Avata 2 offers better durability and power than its predecessor, while being 1.06 ounces / 30 grams lighter. Without the DJI Avata 2 battery, which is surprisingly light, it remains to be seen how well it can withstand repeated collisions, although the option to use the built-in obstacle detection and avoidance feature could go a long way toward avoiding such accidents. It’s perhaps worth mentioning that this drone was never designed to be a freestyle FPV drone – it’s still a cinewhoop with a pipe.

In the UK, operators can fly the Avata 2 using high-definition goggles, as long as there is an observer nearby who can keep the drone in sight at all times.

This is particularly useful for those using this drone commercially, as it allows them to concentrate on the task at hand without having to constantly worry about DJI Avata 2 Drone Batteryexhaustion and fear of missing that key moment.
